The team provide advice on everything work from technology and AI deals (buy and deploy side) to market strategies like platforms, agencies, distribution, and franchises. They handle IP-rich deals like video games development and publishing, sponsorship, branded content, talent, licensing, and production, agreements, as well as outsourcing, buying and selling goods and services, media buying, consumer issues, advisory matters, and regulatory investigations..
The primary focus of the role will be commercial and regulatory work in the context of technology deals. While you will cover a broad range of commercial work (including consumer, platform and other ‘routes to market’ work), the ideal candidate would be someone who really enjoys technology-related work and is not afraid to get stuck into the larger and more complex agreements when they come up, such as significant systems integration and outsourcing transactions, and AI deployment, as well as the lighter day-to-day agreements and advisory work (from SaaS agreements to DORA and NIS compliance). There is a huge range of technology-related work on offer, including agile software development contracts, SaaS agreements, software licences, mobile app contracts, crypto, AI and many other cutting-edge tech sub-sectors.
Preferentially, you would also have an interest in the video games sector and be enthusiastic about undertaking a range of billable work involving that industry, including game development agreements, publishing agreements and agreements involving advice on IP, data and consumer elements. This is an option and not a requirement, but this role would offer a real opportunity for someone interested in the games industry. Previous experience would not be necessary, although would be a bonus.
We would expect you to take the IAPP CIPP/E data exam (like most of our associates) as we believe that this is core to being a superb technology and commercial lawyer (but we won’t expect you to do audits or more specialist data work, unless you wish to). Experience in intellectual property transactions and regulation involving consumer law and online safety would also be a plus.
